Language and Culture Service Learning: UGA Costa Rica Program
For the past several years, dozens of University of Georgia teacher education students have studied abroad in a month-long summer program at UGA's Costa Rica campus.
They explore issues involved in teaching English as a Second Language through reflection, discussions and theoretical readings. They apply what they learn in a week-long "English Camp" for local elementary school children by developing interactive lessons that integrate Costa Rican national science curriculum. They also explore cultural differences with week-long home stays with Costa Rican families.
This course is just one example of the comprehensive nature and quality of UGA's teacher preparation programs, which are perennially ranked among the Top 10 colleges of education in the nation.
