The Bulgarian army numbers approx. 45 000 men along with 303 000 men in reserve and more than 15 000 in paramilitary formations. The regular armed forces are completely professional. More than 500 bulgarian soldiers are deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq. The equipment includes some 400 T-72M tanks, 430 T-55 tanks, 220 BM-21 launchers, about 700 2S1 self-propelled howitzers and hundreds of other artillery pieces; at least 30 SS-21 missiles (120 km range, 500 kg warhead), 39 Su-25 attack planes, 21 MiG-21 fighters, 20 MiG-29 fighters, 18 Mi-24 gunships, 6 Eurocopter Panther naval attack helicopters (to be delivered). Chemical arsenals of sarin, tabun, soman still exist, but precise information on the quantity is classified. Footage at 1:36, 1:58 and 2:43 is not bulgarian, but shows performance of systems (ATGMs, MANPADS, Air-to-Ground missiles) similar to those the bulgarian army uses.
