Found this again & wanted to comment. That version of Boatman from Roscoe Parrish, who lived near Galax, VA. The original is on a wonderful collection called The Old Time Way, collected, recorded & annotated by Alice Gerrard & Andy Cahan in the late 70s-early 80s.

Mike has his banjo tuned in the old "drop C" tuning & is playing in a picking style that was once more common.

  • Great sound, although not like any "Boatman" I ever heard. Much better in fact. I'm not sure its the same melody. If it is, Rafe has added a lot of his own innovations. Can anyone enlighten me?

  • killer is right!!!

  • And mighty fine banjo picking.

  • What a killer CD these three could make. And don't JH sound good on that 000-18?
