Hi everyone,
I made a Rita's Rump Pocket (RRP) nappy last night. Although I didn't record a tutorial (which I will do soon) I have showed you the finished product and modelled it on my 7.5 month old.
It is made with a printed flannel outer, printed flannel inner, elastic legs, microfibre and flannel insert.
This has the be one of the simplest nappies to make and doesn't take long to sew either. This nappy is NOT waterproof and needs a cover over the top. If you wanted to use a snappi you would have to choose a fabric for the outside material like terry towelling or similar.

  • Do you think home made nappies work just as well as bought ones?

  • @newmum2010 Yes, I mean I do like my bought ones too but I sometimes have found my one leak less!

  • That nappy looks so great...its so neat and professional looking. Im just learning how to sew, but once you put that tutorial im definately going to give it a go!

  • @newmum2010 Great, then I will have to do it very soon. I am afraid I will wake the girls if I do it when they are sleeping but I will try to make it as soon as i can. This is the first thing I started sewing when i began 2.5 years ago.

  • ugh!! Grace I LOVE this!!!! I wish I knew how to sew : (

  • @08jaydensmommy08

Ha, I love to sew, its my outlet but when i began I had no idea how to do it so I suppose it is possible but you have to have patience :) Thanks

  • Can you add snaps and PUL to this pattern?

  • I made 24 of these while I was pregnant. I used flannel too but I don't mind using pins to hold it shut. And it does fit newborns. I used them for my little guy when he was brand new and we still use them now 5 months later. I don't have elastic in the back of mine but my guy isn't a big pooper. hehheee

  • @SewingClothDiapers Have done a few with velcro but it seems to fit better with the pins. You can get a better fit.

  • You totally can snappi on flannel once it has been washed a few times, at least I do with my flannel with great success. When the flannel is new, it doesn't take it well, but once it gets a bit pilly it takes it well, the more you use the better it will take it. I haven't really had a problem with holes forming, though possibly this could be a problem over a long period of time, but pins would cause the same problem.
