  • The idea behind having the taxes added on was so that the taxes wouldn't be hidden. For example, I'm not sure if it's the same in your province, but here in New Brunswick when one goes to the Liquor Store the price that is posted is the the price that you pay, which is because all the taxes on alcohol are hidden taxes. There's all kinds of taxes on alcohol, of course, but the side effect is you never see the true, before taxes price of alcohol because everything is factored in.

  • @MapleTreeOfKnowledge I think the taxes should still all be laid out on the receipt. On the price tag, I just want to see what I have to pay.

  • @karflooie Boom... Exactly.

  • They should also post the price it costs to make all products. For example if I buy a camera priced at $800, but it cost Canon $35 to make it, I want the price tag to say REAL PRICE $35 next to the retail price so I know how badly I'm getting ripped off. :)

  • AMEN!

I hate the HST <_< the "*you wish suckers" is exactly what I feel they are saying.

  • @karflooie I'm pretty sure in Ont. the liquor tax is also included

  • but how can I practice my math?

  • Haha, I definitely agree with you =]

  • @karflooie Makes sense to me. He he. I'm pretty sure politicians swear an oath against practical ideas. ^_^

  • I agree. I live in the UK right now, so I'm super spoiled with prices. If it says £2 on the tag, it costs £2. You hand them a £2 coin, and walk away. Or a £5 bill, and get £3 in change. Then I go home to the US, and I remember how much sales tax not being included in the price sucks! Here, the pound store is where things cost a pound, not like the dollar store where things cost $1.08, give or take.

  • @MapleTreeOfKnowledge I agree with you that the price we see on items should be the price we pay for them; I really don't care if the taxes are hidden within the price seeing as we're going to have to pay them anyway. It was Maroney who opted for the GST at least to not be a hidden tax, whether or not that was in line with or contrary to public opinion at the time I have no idea. The GST was very unpopular to begin with, so I'm guessing anything GST related was contrary to public opinion.. ^_^
