Fantastici e bello l'assolo di Cal Collins. l'interplay tra clarinetto e chitarra è magistrale.

Cal also accompanied on this Randy Crawford performance: Yio8ai5F5lQ (copy/paste in YouTube search)

Cal's playing was total genius. I miss him.

I had the pleasure of recording with Cal in '69, along with Tommy Wills. I also played the Buccaneer in '73. Those were the days. Frank Vincent, Cal, Dee Felice, Lee Tucker, Frankie Brown, Mike Andres, Gwen Connley, Kenny Poole, Steve Schmidt, Lee Stoller, Mark Murphy, Roy Meriwether and on and on and on. Does it get any better than that?

So great to see this footage of Cal - as others have said, a forgotten giant. His unaccompanied playing was incredible, and his sound was so original.
Thanks so much for posting!

lucky you got the change to study with cal

Cal was my inspiration. As a teacher, friend and statesman, he was was my main influence! From Whitey's and the Bucaneer Lounge in Reading Ohio all way to Russia, he was a worldclass jazz guitarist. God Bless whoever posted this great interplay.
The bassist is Lennie Bush (UK), one of the great British bop generation musicians.

Cool. Thanks SLK for the information. Is Lennie still around and playing?

Sadly Lennie died 2004. Born 1927, he took up double bass at 16, studying with James Merret Snr (Guildhall School of Music). From 1944 for 50+ years he was busy as a jazzman and studio musician (films, TV, etc.). He played jazz with British players such as Ronnie Scott, Jimmy Deuchar, Victor Feldman,Tony Kinsey, Tony Crombie, Stan Tracey, Kenny Baker and Don Lusher, and with visiting jazz stars including Benny Goodman. Louis Armstrong, Zoot Sims, Roy Eldridge, Joe Pass, and Stephane Grappelli.

Great stuff SLK and thanks. Did you know Lennie personally? Sorry to hear that he is no longer with us...he's probably holding some awesome jam session wherever he is...:)

What an awesome vintage clip of days gone by.
Benny and Cal's featured duo is stellar !
Cal Collins is an ace jazz guitarist, how did he get so forgotten? The entire band is world class. Aw, the days of jazz with Benny and those bow ties are a site to behold and absorb. As good as it gets for swing jazz.
THANKS LYLE, great selection for sharing.

My pleasure...Cal is one of those players who has, for some reason, remained on the margins of popularity...but highly regarded in musicians circles. There will be more to come from this show. Thanks for the wonderful comments and I'm glad you enjoyed it.
