Here is some test footage that we shot with our RED one and the RED 18-50 lens at F2.8 We used one key light that ran off my car with an inverter. In a bigger city we might not have needed the key but it certainly helped in Fresno.

  • My problem with Red and all digital cameras is the way the human face is rendered. It's just too damn real. Everything on film looks, well, better than real. Film makes everything look immortal. The Red can take some pretty pictures but it just doesn't have the power of film. My guess is that even movies that have been shot on Red eventually have a film-out phase where the red images are transferred to film. That actually works pretty well.

  • What lights were used in this shoot?

  • @StuartHaight thanks for explaining that again to the commenters. I made the choice to lower the shutter speed and you would not have made that choice. Of course, that's why they have the button. So that the DP can make his own choices. Cheers!

  • low light test? Thats a Red One, there is less Noise than in a public library :D

  • @Uncooltshirtsdotcom

It's a 360 degree shutter because the DP chose that setting. It's 24p with a 1/24th shutter. That's all it was. It would 'look less like video' if you chose the normal setup of 24p with 1/48th aka 180 degree.

It doesn't matter if something looks like film if a certain framerate and shutter speed works for the content and client.

One thing I won't agree with is choosing 1/24th for the sake of getting more light, shutter speed IMO is an absolute priority (being at 1/48th)

  • What's the point in watching RED footage in 360p .....??

  • @EastHorizon nope... chinese
