I like how the writers of the new Thundercats writers pay homage to the older series. some are more subtle then others. The first part is from an out take during the recording of the original series.

A samophlange is a rod with a spinning pinwheel type thing on top rotating like helicopter blades. It is completely useless but it makes several appearences in World of Warcraft. This may not be what is in the show, but it is the only visual representation I know of. :o
