The federal government ordered these Postal trucks from Ford beginning in 1928. Some 400 1929 AA-based vehicles procured in June 1929 with bodies built by the August Schubert Wagon Works. In 1931, the Post Office bought 2500 more AA-based mail trucks. In addition, there were 1400 smaller vehicles procured based on the standard Model A automobile chassis. In total, there were 4300 mail vehicles based on the Model A Ford. This 1931, unit #11705, is one of the smaller versions based on the passenger chassis. The wooden body is in excellent shape, minor paint issues show in some areas. The sheet metal is straight, all trim is in good condition and the running gear is top notch. What a superb piece of motoring history that would enhance any private collection, or provide an unusual venue for a museum display. This one is a must see and rarely found historical artifact.
