A true RARITY! Anneliese Rothenberger in one of her signature roles (Susanna) and Dame Gwyneth Jones in a more than unusual role, the countess Almaviva. W.A. Mozart: Le Nozze di Figaro
@wotan10950 She is gorgeous in the recording of Otello with McCracken and Fischer-Dieskau...one of the best Willow Songs ever, and she could pull out the stops in the big confrontation with Otello in Act 3. I was in the chorus at SF when she sang the Gotterdammerung Brunhilde, and also heard her Elektra there in 1991, which rattles in my head to this day. Go Gwyneth!
I always felt that Dame Gwyneth was on her best behavior in the lyric roles. She could focus on the beauty of her voice. In the very dramatic roles, she often had to push and make a harsh sound. But her Elektra and Brunnhilde are immortal, so we all benefit from her artistry! And here she is a lovely Countess.
@90lysander Who knew?! the notes come from nowhere, like the peal of a bell and seemingly without the slightest bit of effort intonation-wise. The best shock i've had in ages
unfortunately in german...

Thanks for posting! A rarity indeed. I did a double-take when I saw the title ... I mean, Jones in Mozart? But she's quite wonderful, actually.
