Full reentry and landing using Martin Schweiger's Orbiter space flight simulator and Atlantis from david413 shuttlefleet. these softs are freeware. you can do the same at home.
this is a non realtime video, as time acceleration is used inside the simulator to speed 10x during the passives braking phases. it results in a 10minutes full reentry from deorbit burn to wheel stop.

The spoiler of the shuttle is constantly used to increase/decrease the sink rate through atmosphere layers (inser and suppr keys).
GPC instrument guide you to get the right speed at the right distance from base, defining a corridor.
Enjoy the soft landing performed with a microsoft sidewinder stick.
This is a straight to base approach, i didn't performed rolls reversal S turns.

  • I always end up outside the reentry cone and can't come back to it. If the vertical situation graph was something like Altitude X Distance, it would be easier. My intuition doesn't play very well with Total Energy (Ke+Pe) X Distance.

Can you tell me how to correct vertical trajectory?

  • @SF1010 you must keep successive altitude "floors" in order to reduce speed. no too fast to avoid burnout and to brake enough not to end in ocean. try to stay in the up-half of the GPC cone to keep a little extra velocity. i noticed that if you stay in the dead middle of the cone your final speed is a bit too low and you can more easily get off-course.

  • no need to argue. i'm used to drive of the right side of the road.

  • need to hit the centerline...

  • pretty cool

can u set faliures for launch and reentry

  • You might be risking blowing her MLG tires landing at 280 knots.

  • lol!
