This new group of seven professional musicians present the exciting spirit of New Orleans in a fresh, contemporary way. Jazz, Blues and Funk all have roots in New Orleans and like true Gumbo they're all part of the groovy repertoire!




Young and talented musicians Hans Mantel and Joppe de Vree had performed already in bands of varying styles, and in 2009 realised their common interest in New Orleans music.




They decided to form a group, and contacted some of the top players on the dutch New Orleans scene, namely Bas de Jager and the brothers Emile and Jasper van Pelt, who had played together already in the famous La Vida New Orleans Band.




When their mutual friend, the great English saxophonist/singer Jonny Boston moved to Holland, the group was complete and Gumbo Jumbo was born!
