This is the official launch of the kayak my dad and I built over the last 7 months in his garage. The kayak is named Drizzt after my deceased cat who perished the day this boat became "sea-worthy" back in July (09). We're at Lake Lopez in California. The kayak is from a kit designed by the ingenious craftsman, John Lockwood, of Pygmy Boats in Port Townsend, Washington. This model is one of Pygmy Boats Inc. newest models, designed in 2008: the Pinguino Sport Recreational Kayak. It's 13 feet long and weighs in at about 35 pounds! AND will not sink! (I filled it entirely with water at Lake Lopez and the boat would not sink.) The building of this kayak was fun and pretty easy with two people. It's made of okoume marine grade plywood, epoxy, fiberglass & a bunch o' luv, and took a hundred+ hours to complete. Think I'll try it ocean fishing near Pismo or Morro Bay...
