I think it is worthy to note that Ontario is taking the phasing out of coal plants seriously. Several coal plants (including 2 reactors at Nanticoke, formerly North America's single largest point source of CO2 and a major source of many other pollutants) have been permanently shut down and are in the process of being replaced by less carbon-intense fuels, including nuclear, wind and solar.
1200MW of renewables is stated to have come online in Ontario since 2003.
