A total of 11,457 runners and walkers -- all full-time workers who entered as part of corporate teams -- from 405 Western New York companies competed tonight in the 30th annual Chase Corporate Challenge at Delaware Park.
The 3.5-mile road race took off at 6:45 p.m. and companies celebrated post-race in more than 300 hospitality tents throughout Delaware Park. The total size of participants was 15-percent larger than the 9,990 that gathered in 2009.
The Chase Corporate Challenge has become the unofficial kick-off of summer for the Buffalo business community. Employees from businesses of all sizes and industry groups took part for healthy competition, camaraderie, team-building, and a significant contribution to the community. A donation was made by the JPMorgan Chase Foundation for each entry to the Police Athletic League of Buffalo, allowing PAL to provide its program participants with meaningful summer job opportunities.
The largest companies in terms of participation were: Kaleida Health (626 entrants); Buffalo Public Schools (342); Ingram Micro (308); M&T Bank (292); Catholic Health (288); Moog (194); HSBC (190); Wegmans (189); University at Buffalo (178); and Fisher-Price (157).
