"A man who spent nearly 17 years in prison for murder walked free on Friday after authorities discovered evidence that law officers and prosecutors hid key details from defense lawyers during his trial. Superior Court Judge Joe Turner ordered that LaMonte Armstrong, 62, be released from prison where he was serving a life sentence. Armstrong was convicted in 1995 for the 1988 killing of Ernestine Compton, one of his former professors at North Carolina A&T State University...".* Ana Kasparian, Cenk Uygur, and Jayar Jackson discuss on The Young Turks.

The prosecutors did not have to "know" the defendant was "innocent". Withholding evidence changed the dynamic of the trial and the verdict and the sentencing. I agree with TYT on this tho I'm sure some facts are missing which is their signature modus operandi. Minimum of 1 million dollars compensation for each year Armstrong served and any prosecutor caught red-handed withholding evidence should be jailed and license revoked nation-wide.

Punishment should be as follows for withholding evidence deemed essential for the case:
1) 6 figures for each year served
2) License to practice revoked immediately for prosecutors involved.
3) Fraud and Contempt of Court charges levied against prosecutors followed by minimum 10 years in prison.
Guess how many people would deceive the justice system then?

A little side-note here... If 6 prisoners got a shorter sentence to falsify evidence against an innocent man, isn't that alone a reason for concern? I mean, imagine if innocent people are put in jail, and as an added bonus, violent offenders are released early! Obviously that's not good for anyone, no matter how callous you are about innocent people are.

Did you even bother to actually look at the case before criticizing the Young Turks? Obviously you didn't because then you would actually know that it was misconduct because both the police AND and prosecutor withheld evidence. Please know what you're talking about before you type nonsense.

Hey Young Turks maybe you should start reporting ACCURATE facts instead of your OWN opinions. Lamonte Armstrong was released on NEW DNA edvenice. There was no shady poilce work and or wrong doing by the prosecutors. I sure all this information was investigated before Lamontes release. It never ceases to amaze me the bullshit people believe.
