Yes. He was a fantastic person, a great friend, and a great talent. both feet on the ground, always has time to say hi to a friend or neighbor, always a great man. I no longer live next door to Willy,and I miss it... Those were some fantastic times in my life... geez - i'm talking about him like i'm writing an elegy... I used to think that i was a decent guitarist and had a decent knowledge of the frets... Willy's music blows me away. i try to play how he plays but can't even get close.

He is very real when he plays on stage. Th eperson who posted before was right. The MTV world is not about music much anymore. In fact the next generation cannot sit though whole song let alone one Willy song. Thats ok there are still kids passing through who will love true passion and heart on stage... like a Willy. The guy is great. He gets lojng with people well. Never had the show business ego. Hell of a player and invented his own styles.

I saw him for the first time last time at Eddie's Attic, in Decatur Georgia. By far the most amazing acoustic show I have ever seen. The man and his music are just incredible. There are not words to describe how this man touches my soul...

I love his music and he is a great guy... I still remember him comming to my fourth or fifth grade class and playing for us before his nephiew moved away.

the first time i saw willy porter playing live was in nyc in 2003 and when he played this song i got the chills and i thought, "wow. this human being is doing exactly what he was meant to do on this planet". he is an incredibly gifted singer/songwriter and an awesome guitarist.

thank for you posting this... what a treat to be a neighbor of Willy, I can't imagine... yeah, I've played guitar 25 years, but watching Willy is like watching a magic trick... how DOES he do that?

and then a great voice... the fact he's not very well known is testimony to the unfairness of the world, IMO...

I catch his show every time a I can... I once drove from SF to see him at McCabe's.... about 5 hours, as I recall...

i just tried a willy porter style open tuning and found this tune here, so i thought i'd post my video here too.

one of my students told me willy had a new guild at his show the other night, that i couldn't go to because i had a show to play, and i couldn't imagine him using a guild because of the high end ones he's used, but this signature model is amazing!
