There's a really odd lack of connection with uke, and movements that are clearly derived out of perception that in Aikido the nage (thrower) moves in a circular fashion.
In applicable/mechanically-sound Aikido, the nage mostly moves in straight lines and does sharp, quick 180 turns, while the uke (attacker) can be found moving in circular/spiral fashion.
@hgamer: there are but not empty handed ones like in other arts. since aikido was derived from aiki-jutsu, the forms focus on the use of weapons like the sword, the jo (short staff) and the bo (long staff).
@Apinitis: it is. when you are doing aikido techniques, one of the main important parts is too lead the direction of your opponent using pivoting and your arms to create a level of tension as you move. he is simulating the movement of the person being attacked and how you would position your arms to control your opponent's movement as the attacker holds on to your arms.
@hgamer oh, yeah...never have sweat SO hard than when doing basic movements and other kata for an entire class...solo techniques with weapons, can go on for hours.
especially when Sensei is asking for really deep stances and strong movements
