And how is that working for ya?
Food that was once delicious, once tasty, good for you or at least tasted good goes bad. Time, spoiling, rotting and aging happens. The same thing goes for the old music business. While there are elements that are still fresh or at least preserved, the new music business is where it is at and has a much longer shelf life.

When artists, labels, managers and agents are putting together their music business plan of attack from recording to release, marketing to promotion, distribution to licensing and everything else, the considerations have to be in place regarding how it is going to work for today. Yes, the past is still prevalent but in the new music industry of today, elements such as social media, over saturation, digital downloads and the economy have made massive alterations on the old model.

This then followed by people who may have had success in the music business of the past telling everyone exactly how everything works with no consideration to the new music business that they may not be all that familiar with. If you are creating an album, creating a new business as an artist, as a record label or anything entertainment related, be up to date, fresh and knowledgeable with ideas that have not expired, spoiled or gone bad.

You can still apply the skill sets, the successes of the past and listen to those with incredible amounts of both experience and hands on knowledge. Still, all that needs to be mixed with the understanding, comprehension of the new music business of today with a finger on the pulse of the trends, the examples and the ever changing results and standards of what is happening in the moment.

Those that are aware of or work to learn about expiration dates, shelf lives and the signs that something is going bad, will have a much better chance at success as well as not getting a stomach ache.
