@BlackwoodCompany The guy who didn't win a dime in the winner's circle I think was worse. That one went down in history, first and to my knowledge only guy to not get a dime.

Wow! Some people may disagree but this is a terrible display of hosting by Dick Clark. By trying to console the contestants, he's making them feel so uncomfortable. It's the host that makes or breaks the atmosphere of the show and Dick made it seem so depressing here. It's also unfair for the winners who are made to feel like they should be mourning the unlucky losers instead of celebrating their own deserved victory. I think this video should be renamed 'Dick Clark - Epic Fail'.

Dick's not trying to be an asshole, or "rub it in her face" - he's trying to be sympathetic, plus he knows the game will end short, so he's trying to stall for time. Probably doing what the director's telling him to.
