The countless people involved in creating new automobiles have to get their start somewhere. One place is the Formula SAE competition. Encompassing a variety of disciplines, Formula SAE lets college student display their engineering talents by building then racing one-seat open-wheel racecars in a variety of disciplines. As we found, Formula SAE's focus may be on education but the event also breeds some surprisingly intense competition.

I had a blast being part of the 2011 FSAE Fontana competition. Too bad they didn’t show our FSAE car #85 (University of California - Irvine).

I love working on a driving the FSAE cars at my schools shop, but I'm on the Baja team. I just love that style of racing and the camaraderie between the schools at those events more than the starched and pressed feelings of FSAE events.
