PORT ALBERNI - Two year-old pit bull terrier "Stanley" has come a long way from an animal shelter in California. He was days away from being euthanized when a video about high-kill animal shelters featuring Stanley was posted online.
The video went viral and over the holidays was viewed by thousands of people. One of those people was Dave Schofield, who runs Respect-A-Bull Dog Rescue, a non-profit pit-bull rescue organization based in the Alberni Valley.
"I got about halfway through the video and I lost it," Schofield said. He then went about trying to rescue Stanley from the shelter.
Flash forward a few weeks and Stanley is in a foster home in Port Alberni.
He'll stay there until he's a permanent home is found for him. Scholfield is urging anyone thinking of getting a dog to check animal shelters first.
He says there are plenty of great dogs like Stanley waiting for a loving family to adopt them.
