While doing a job in El Paso, had some time to check out some railroad activity at the Union Station. A very nicely restored building. The trainway took three years to build in 1948. At the time it was built the Southern Pacific tracks cut the city in half. At the time the tracks were built it was the northern edge of El Paso. As the city grew and the trains grew so did the people being cut off from each side of the tracks, thus the trainway is here. Of course now it is Union Pacific.

  • So it's a subterranean track beneath roadways?

  • @markpemble I wouldn't call it subterranean. It is open on top with horizontal supports.

  • Why is the train going so slowly?

  • He is approaching a red signal. He will be waiting for over 2 hours for a train coming from the west.

  • also, he is most likely slowing down to fuel at the west fueling depot. almost all west-bounds stop there to fuel and change crews. there is an identical depot on the east side of the yard.

  • Thanks for the answer.
