Kris about the story behind this song: "It was just what I was feeling. I was actually sitting in a helicopter tied down on top of an oil rig 50 miles south of New Orleans out in the Gulf and just thinking about asking someone to just help me though the night." In some other interview Kris said the idea for this song, written in "one of those little bubble helicopters" had been sparked by remarks made during an interview by Frank Sinatra, who said that he would use religion, a broad or the bottle or "anything else that would help a man make it through the night." And he also said that he probably started writing this song "because I liked Dylan's 'I'll be your baby tonight."

I remember a conversation I had on my old YT channel about this song and remember my words lol This performance here is really so joyful, you can feel his pleasure and anticipation of what will be happening, and using these gentle words, just like a bird when dancing its courtship to please the female one -- because he can't wait to get her ... And watch his body language, his face, his eyes --I believe him and his words... If he sang it as slowly as they do in some other versions (of mostly female singers... but you are right, also in some duets of him) she would just fall asleep and all the romantic would have gone... But in real life -- men can't wait... ;-)

Help me make it through the night

Take the ribbon from your hair, shake it loose and let it fall,
Layin' soft upon my skin like the shadows on the wall.

Come and lay down by my side till the early morning light
All I'm takin' is your time. Help me make it through the night.

I don't care who' s right or wrong, I don't try to understand.
Let the devil take tomorrow. Lord, tonight I need a friend.

Yesterday is dead and gone and tomorrow's out of sight
And it's sad to be alone. Help me make it through the night.

I don't care what's right or wrong, I won't try to understand.
Let the devil take tomorrow for tonight I need a friend.

Yesterday is dead and gone and tomorrow's out of sight
And it's sad to be alone. Help me make it through the night.

I don't wanna be alone. Help me make it through the night.

Help me make it through the night (1970)

Inspiriert wurde Kris durch Worte von Frank Sinatra, der in einem Interview gesagt hatte, that he would use religion, a broad or the bottle -- „or anything else that would help a man make it through the night." Kris sagte, dass er wahrscheinlich begann, diesen Song zu schreiben, weil er Bob Dylans "I'll be your baby tonight" so sehr mochte.
