Freshman from the Binghamton University Watson School of Engineering (John Rocchio, Dan Kidney, Peter Volpe)
present their VCR cat feeder. By using the VCR timer, the students make the VCR dispense cat food, allowing anyone to feed their pet while away from the house. This project is part of a class, Watson104: Technical Communication, which emphasizes engineering research and design processes.
I would be ashamed to present that as a project. For one thing it's a rip off of John Park's (Make: magazine) VCR cat feeder, and it has the same problem that all other homemade feeders have. It doesn't keep the food airtight. I don't know about anyone else, but my cats really don't like to eat stale food.
I shouldn't be talking. I'm currently working on one, but I have no idea how much better mine will be. At least the design is better even if I don't have access to the materials and tools.
