I love this Doobie Brothers song although I was hard pressed to interpret the lyrics into video almost resulting in no video. Instead, I chose to use the Storyville era of New Orleans which flourished for 20 years between 1898 and 1917.

Patrick Simmons is undoubtedly my favorite song writer for the Doobies. His compositions were essentially deep album cuts or B-Sides to Johnston's (and later, Michael McDonald's) radio-friendly singles.

The movie, Pretty Baby starring Brooke Shields (Violet) was made which depicts the Storyville history and I included one "parlor" picture from the movie.

At the turn into the 20th century, the undisputed center of good times in the Big Easy was literally carved out of the New Orleans landscape by Alderman Sidney Story. Storyville - as it came to be known, was the citys experimental "red light " district for legalized prostitution.

Toulouse Street
Patrick Simmons

Im walkin in shadows, I cannot see
Faces, they smile when I fall or flee
Doors without windows all shuttered tight again I just might pass this way again
I just might pass this way again
I just might pass this way
I just might pass this way again

The night she is hot, Creole girls they sing
My heart, it is pounding, my ears they ring
The spell has been cast down in New Orleans again

I just might pass this way again
I just might pass this way again
I just might pass this way
I just might pass this way again

Locked in a room down in New Orleans
My blood is a flowin fast
Locked in a room down in New Orleans
My blood is a flowin fast

The night she is hot, Creole girls they sing
My heart, it is pounding, my ears they ring
The spell has been cast down in New Orleans
My blood is a flowin fast
