Sen. Dick Durbin talks about being without health insurance

So 1 in 6 Americans don't have health insurance, but did you know Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) was once one of them?

At the Center for American Progess, Durbin recounted his personal experience as a young father without health insurnace and how Children's Hospital in Washington, DC helped care for his infant daughter through a program they have to assist uninsured Americans.

Insurance co's are frauds. They have relinquished all rights to have the field to themselves. Even the Republicans acknowledged that health care needed to be fixed, during the elections in 2008. It is time to take the corruption out of this. The ripoff insurance co's deny people's claims because they had a "pre-existing condition" of something minor when they were 16. Haha.

@jdogh84 as a diehard liberal to the extreme I agree there needs to be tort reform because in other nations where there is socialized medicine, there is hardly so much money wasted on defensive medicine....but in other cultures CEOs don't make 50 million / 4 years and that is just as atrocious. we need tort reform and a public option...or else no such thing...and gov't can run things much better than private corporations because private corporations = monopoly

TORT reform first. Then work on helping those without insurance. Durbin should have town hall meetings and discuss concerns. There are problems with the system we have but having the govenment run it is not the answer. He is afraid someone will yell at him. Maybe they should; I have written him many times and never gotten a response. It is frustrating. Ignoring the ones who voted for him won't help and will probably get him voted out next time.

I'm a cancer survivor, but I should say that I'm a "health insurance company" survivor because I defeat the cancer but I still fighting the economical cancer that is growing in my pockets. The system we have DOESN'T WORK!!!! The health of our kids is at risk with these companies, they don't care of prevention because diseases are their business. Healthcare is very expensive because we treat diseases (this is very expensive), we don't prevent them (less expensive and not profitable).

Today you go to the doctor, if you're diagnosed with a serious illness you discuss treatment with your doctor and you decide how to move forward. Under the Obama plan you stand in front of a Board that will tell YOU how to be treated. On this board will be bureaucrats like a labor union rep (SEIU thug) why would you want to give your life away? You are still free! Snap out of it.

It is kind of amazing some "people" think health costs are like buying a car or any other commercial proposition (eg: all the insurance co-sponsored posts on Youtube by varying "people"). You can plan to buy a car or a house: it's your own responsibility and your money allocation--but you can't plan a medical affliction. Not the same. I simply note one anti-health plan person on Ytube had her two fave videos as a) a revolver shooting into a tank, and b) a clip of Milton F'man on "Greed". True!!
