These are pics of our day-trip to the parkway, heading south from Boone toward Mt Mitchell, with a stop at Grandfather Mt. I chose to accompany the slide show with Brad Paisley's instrumental: What a Friend We Have In Jesus. The weather was miserable on top of Grandfather, with high winds and fog. You could hardly see your hand in front of you, much less the swinging bridge, and it's normally spectacular views. I was lucky to get a few pics of the animals at the zoo, in between spurts of light drizzle. The weather was much better along the parkway, but it was still quite chilly. A lot of the leaves had already fallen, so I didn't have many "spectacular" photos, as far as color goes. We had planned to go a couple of weeks earlier, but had to postpone due to illness, so we missed the window of opportunity for peak color. Despite the lack of color, I still think it's breathtaking to stand atop the crests and look across the never ending horizon. It really lets you know just how small you really are!
Thank you for combing my two favorites, it makes me miss the hills and valleys along the parkway.
