You will need the 3.8 mm secruity bit which you can find on EBAY. Rubbing alcohol will clean the dirt off and dry quickly to avoid any damage. Use an eraser if your games is really dirty. Once you have fixed your games you can sell them on EBay or play them yourself.
The same 3.8 mm bit will work on SNES and N64 games. Some NES games have different screws then the star-like 3.8 mm bit. I think you can get those off with a size 0 phillips screwdriver or a flathead. Don't throw out your games if they are dirty because you can save them and they might be worth something!

  • Another EASY idea you can try when games are not loading, is to simply BREATHE SOME WARM BREATH over the contacts of the game, then insert. Works surprisingly well. that's if it's not too dirty.

Like, if your cart looks pretty clean, but won't load, try breathing along the contacts for a few seconds, then go! Works great for me! EASY!

  • @muzboz Yes! I totally remember doing this as a kid Lol

  • i have a problem cleaning really dirty nes games i mean really dirty, it look like shit stains mix with roach eggs or something. usually i see alot of yuck upon where on top left hand corner where you use your thumb to pull out cart from the system. sometimes alcholol wont do the job. any suggestions?

  • @purpledonatello The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser has helped me with almost anything gross. It takes off permanent marker too. Just be careful not to get the electronic part wet.

  • does this work on snes cartridges

  • @brollicon Yes it does! :)

  • @thrash77581 Fair cop! It's the only way for me to get mine to work though. But I'm an inherently lazy person, and can't be bothered cleaning them properly. I tried spirits on a cottom tip. Didn't work. Breather on it, good to go. Sometimes you gotta break a few eggs. :| Jokes. But jokes I live by, unfortunately.

  • @muzboz That is terrible advice and will probably lead to more corrosion. Just because kids blew on their games back in the 80s doesn't mean it's a good way to clean them.

  • If you're selling NES games on ebay feel free to message me with the links. I'm always looking for a good buy.

  • Windex on a Qtip is less harsh than rubbing alcohol on the metal and works great.

  • lighter fluid removes all the goo from the stickers game shops put on them

  • carts last so much longer than disks

  • Uhm - my Zelda 2 copy is glithy as hell. The top is going apeshit and the startup screen is weird. Is this because it is dirty? Also my SMB 3 has problems aswell [color and music? i don 't really remember atm.] Help?

  • @katiemariepatton I was usually a PC guy, and we had an Amiga and C64, so I didn't spend much time with cartridges! So it's all kinda new to me! So I was REALLY proud of myself when I came up with the breathing into the cartridge idea! Haha. I love old games. They were such a large part of my childhood. I make games now! :)
