  • Religion: The most annoying hobby in the world!

  • If religions are growing, it's only because theists tend to be more reckless about reproduction and because they pressure their children to conform to their religion. Actual conversion numbers are fading fast. For what it's worth, I personally don't know any adult theists who were not pressured into theistic conformity as children in some way or another. Regardless of whether you believe in a creator, once you know the scientific facts, there's little room for true religious conversion.

  • Religion came about as a way for primitives to explain the mysteries of the world around them. Through scientific discovery we are now able to find more logical explanations for these things. We don't need to hang onto beliefs that it's all magical bullshit anymore.

  • oh boy, people have said the end of religion is near but the shit never goes away. Once you poison the mind of certain individuals, they make it their duty that EVERYONE has to know their shit.

  • @Ohyewildthong of how many like me who were born into it and have since been convinced of the error of those and any religions ways?

  • Great host...

  • @Ohyewildthong I can't disagree with you. I am not sure what the numbers are. In America there are a lot of people who won't actually admit to being a non-believer because of the social repercussions. I think it is wonderful that people are at least openly discussing the issue. September 11th was a HUGE turning point and such an example of brainwashing and the elevation of a cause above humanity, empathy and rational thought. It has made a lot of people think and resulted in a number of debates.

  • @RATIONALMIND001 Sigh, I'm not making the argument that religion is correct because so many people follow it, only a moron would argue, or believe that I was arguing, that. However, Professor Grayling is trying to claim that religion is dying. How can that be true when the number of believers has increased significantly over the last half century?

  • @RATIONALMIND001 I hope they're nominated, because I'm pretty sure they'll lose and that Obama would go on for another four years. In Europe republicans are pretty loathed and democrats the preferred candidates. Clinton was very popular in Europe and Obama is even more popular, and I cheer for him too!: )

  • @Ohyewildthong Numbers of believers is the only validity religions have. It's a case of "Eat shit, a thousand billion flies can't be wrong."

  • @winterstellar Have you seen the latest Republican candidates for 2012? Bachmann, Romney and Perry - total "religious alcoholics". Scary I think!

  • @GreenDistantStar A nice assertion, but one you provide with no evidence.
