1983 Firestone - Joe Berardi vs. Henry Gonzalez - Part 1

The date was April 30, 1983 at the Riviera Lanes, Akron, Ohio, site of the $200,000 Firestone Tournament of Champions. Joe Berardi qualified 4th, and on his way to the championship match to meet tournament leader, Henry Gonzalez, he defeated Bob Handley, Mike Durbin (the defending champion), and Mark Roth. The Berardi/Gonzalez match came down to the 10th frame. The scoring was lower than what was seen in the previous 3 matches, perhaps the $40,000 first prize had something to do with that.
