Killing Joke is one of the most underappreciated bands from this era. I catch a lot of s**t about this opinion, but my opinion is that the band INXS basically took their sound and made a more 'happy' commercial version of it,and became superstars. I never respected INXS because of it. Disagree? Compare the two.
I TOTALLY disagree, that band don't sound anything like Killing Joke, even with the happy twist on board. The comparison is laughable...
I also disagree with your comment about KJ not being appreciated. Maybe around the time of their first few years as a band, but I think even that may be debatable. But certainly in the last 10-15 years, they've been sited by many as one of THE major bands to have had influencial qualities.
And quite right too, they're in a league of their own...
I rmember hearing this at a party the week it came out. Didn;t understand it but it played all night and scared the bejesus out of me. Still sounds amazing. Such discipline and brutality, those turnaround drums fills are strokes of genius. The riff was possibly nicked from War's 'Me and Baby Brother" ... So many bands have taken this and run with it, but none every scared me morally like KJ.
And Motley Crue's look was lifted from early 70s New York Dolls. That early 70s obsession was why late 70s/early 80s bands like the Crue were considered part of a heavy metal "revival" at the time - they were considered to be reviving looks and sounds from the early 70s.
What flashing blade? I don't know where you're from, but a blade in the uk, is the cutting edge of a knife, a sword or a razor. There ain't nothing like that in this...
