"Going Off" All Girl Skate Jam

In late 90?s Patty Segovia started the All Girl Skate Jam. Pro and amateur women gathered together for a big old session and contest. Over 135 women and girls came out to show the world that skateboarding ain't no boys only club. Tearing it up on the street, the mini, the vert, were Elissa Steamer, Cara Beth Burnside, Jamie Reyes, Jodi McDonald and Jen O?Brien.

That is so wrong. The first time I got on a skateboard,I already started doing tricks. It depends on whether you're a natural or not, not if you're a boy or girl. No one knew girls could play soccer until they were allowed to play in the 70's. Same goes for skateboarding. It's like society still hasn't accepted that girls can skateboard too. So it's not true that a boy that's never ridden a skateboard would do better.

If you cant tell, this video is pretty aged. Back then there was no skater girl cutsie style like today. They wore what was functional, which was guys clothes, as many girls still wear functional clothes today. Guys and girls are often seen wear tightass pants or guys shorts. Theres nothing wrong with it. And i personally like wearing tall tees when i skate cause it hides my boobs when they are half outa my bra from inverts or falling. They also protect ur shoulders nd back from ramp burn...

I was pretty good friends with Jodi McDonald when she was living in a bus down here in San Diego for a while after this tour. She blew her knee out in a bad fall at the end of it, was laid up for some months but did get back to it. Think she recognized after a certain age you have a hard time healing from these things. She would be the first to say girls can do anything guys can do and in street and mini they are convincing but in vert she said the guys are sooo far above in performance.
