Bible Can Be Re-Written?

The Catholic Church has decided to change what is written in the bible.........can that really be done?

@TheCatholicCommunity what makes the bible true anyways? u keep saying the bible tells the truth, what basis do you have to say that? its like the Putting Faith In Its Place video says, think about the cube and what is/is not inside it. there are many possible answers but if you wish to give it a definite answer then you need to supply evidence. and all you have is a bible...which was re-written, so its not necessarily reliable if u ask me.

@TheCatholicCommunity It sounds like if the bible didn't want people to think that it meant "beasts" it shouldn't have used a metaphor without clarity. However, the point is that the bible is being tampered with once again. It's happened all throughout history, that by humans deciding what to leave in and what to remove, as well as translating and revising it, the bible has been changed many times. Even if it was God's word, we'd have to learn the original language to read it unaltered.

Scripture gives us religious history, religious truth, and it conveys that truth and history to us through symbols and figures and different literary styles.

Read the seventh chapter of the Book Daniel: He describes 400 years of Israel’s history in terms of four beasts, four ugly animals that oppress God’s people, one after the other. Now, through research, we can see that these "beasts" each represent nations - Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece and Rome - that oppressed Israel.

Everything the Bible has to tell us - about everything from morals to history - is true. But it’s true in the Bible’s way of telling the truth, which is God’s truth, religious truth. That’s not a cop-out answer. You don’t read a math book looking for religious truths. We can’t assume to read this religious text in order to find mathematical and scientific proofs.

a) I don't know how many times I have to tell you this, but here it is again. WE DO NOT RE-WRITE THE ORIGINAL SCRIPTURES, only the translations to other languages. If I want to read the Old / New Testament in its original language, I can do that and yes, it would be unchanged

(b) why doesnt the bible refer to other galaxies and planets, or entire universes for that matter?

The Bible suggests the presence of nuclear processes like those we associate with nuclear weaponry. This is certainly not something that could have been explained in 67 AD using known scientific principles (when Peter wrote the following verse).

2 Peter 3:10

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.
