One of my sensei also uses his sai without wrapping. It's the kobudoka's choice.

If your main pair of Sai is what I think they are they may be pricey to some, but If you train with them extensively then they are worth the $150-300 price tag. Plus they have a flat moto unlike the cheap mass produce ones so you can actually lock them.

To my knowledge, there is no professional sai maintenance service available. This process is so simple, I'd rather do it myself and know I did a good job. This method is actually better than factory standard.

Could you post an exact materials list and where to get them. particularly the cord and non-slip padding. I want to make sure I use the right stuff.

When I got mine, they had purple poly/cotton cord wrapped around the handles. I took it off because it made them a little too big for my hands, plus they were turning a nasty brown color. I've been using the same pair for over 20 years and have no plans to re-wrap them. That said, nice job.

I used electrical tape to wrap my sai. I don't think that'd work for everyone but once I got used to it I found it easy to flip and grip.

Btw, ur sai are much nicer than mine, I think.

Do you train with throwing or practice against other weapons such as the bo? With time and contact, especially if you throw and end up hitting your own sai with the tip, you end up damaging the wrap, cord or leather.
