During the opening credits, the poem Dark Phrases is recited by the main cast.

I love this poem. Comment and Rate :)

**WARNING**
I DO NOT OWN this video nor do I claim to own any rights to this film.
This is not a picture perfect video. It is a little dark for obvious reasons.
You will see the top of a movie goers head but it doesn't cover the whole screen
you will see some people walk by
There is movement with the camera at certain points, sorry.
You still should be able to see and hear just fine.
Sorry for the bad quality... :-)

Movie is based off of Ntozake Shange's award winning play of For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf.

dark phrases of womenhood
of never having been a girl
half-notes scattered
without rhythm/no tune distraught
laughter falling over a black girls shoulder

it's funny/it's hysterical
the melody-less-ness of her dance
don't tell nobody, don't tell a soul
she's dancin on beer cans and shingles

this must be the spook house
another song with no singers
lyrics/no voices & uninterrupted solos
unseen performances

are we ghouls?
children of horror?
the joke?
don't tell nobody, don't tell a soul
are we animals? have we gone crazy?

I can't hear anythin
but maddening screams
& the soft strains of death
& you promised me, you promised
somebody, anybody

sing a black girls song
bring her out to know herself
to know you
but sing her rhythms
carin/struggle/hard times
sing her song of life
shes been dead so long
closed in silence so long
she doesn't know the sound of her own voice
her infinite beauty

she's half-notes scattered
without rhythm/no tune
sing her sighs
sing the song of her possibilities
sing a righteous gospel
let her be born

let her be born and handled warmly

& this is for colored girls who have considered suicide
but are moving to the ends of their own rainbows
