Pet adoption is on the rise since the campaign's 2009 launch. Despite a bleak economy, the percentage of pets in homes that were adopted from animal shelters and rescue groups has risen from 27% to 29% in the last two years, and encouraging statistics show that euthanasia of shelter pets is down 10% since 2009. However, 2.7 million healthy and treatable pets are still losing their lives in shelters each year. Bringing that number all the way to zero is the goal of "The Shelter Pet Project" campaign, which aims to encourage millions of pet lovers to make shelters the first choice and desired way for acquiring companion animals.

The current phase of the campaign focuses on the bond that exists between a person and their shelter pet and encourages potential adopters to adopt from shelters by explaining that, "A person is the best thing to happen to a shelter pet. Be that person. Adopt."

  • lol the title is a cat face!

  • @MakaliciousJ I'm not one of the video makers but I'll offer a suggestion I've heard passed around by others who make pet videos (particularly the owner of the "mean kitty" here on Youtube): get lots of critter footage, just run the camera like crazy, then cut out any clips where they're doing something you want to save, and keep them for later to edit them into the videos after the fact. Seems the easiest way, especially with the ones who stop being cute as soon as they see a camera. :)

  • @slupine Great suggestion! Also anyone who has not viewed the "Mean Kitty" should. I LOVE the "Mean Kitty" song; it's a great rap song, too (and I am not a rap song lover. LOL)

  • Love the video, just looking for pointers on my own adoption vids. I'm am doing it as a volunteer and I just want them to look as professional as possible. Any tips you might have for working with animals that aren't professionally trained for camera work would be great.

  • hahaha thats funny

  • Too funny!
