An exploration of how the Emperor Penguin is a good model for our own relationships.

Also a conclusion to my "Not Bees" series of musings which questions how well we can compare ourselves to insect colonies, but then turns around and uses them as a metaphor for expanding the human race beyond the limits of our atmosphere.

  • Hello Kevin,

All the four parts were really interesting.

In my opinion, animals are better than people in many ways: They are more kind than people.

They love unconditionally, they don't judge.

And even if sometimes they are cruel to other animal, it's because they maybe don't understand that it's bad, maybe it's their instinct.

People know that cruelty is bad, but still they stay cruel. It's like consciously doing something bad to someone.

    You have good ideas.

  • and as they said in the matrix, humans are more like a virus than any mammal, as they reproduce and consume beyond a level that is balanced with their environment.

  • yeah, Emporer and King penguins have a higher divorce rate than the smaller species which tend to keep a partner for life. i was speaking of the bond between mates, and they are serially monogamous, in that they are incredibly devoted during the breeding process.

  • Incredible misinformation - TUNDRA in Antarctica? Nope - it's solid ice, three miles deep. Bonding for life? Not a chance - they find a new partner every season. And only Emperors live in deepest Antarctica; the Adelies, Chinstraps, and Gentoos live on the ice shelf.

  • tundra is frozen earth, and there's certainly some there. in places it's very rocky, though certainly there are places where there is deep, deep ice over the earth. certainly i'm not an expert on penguins, and was mainly speaking of emporers (who i must have received misinformation about if they change partners each season).

  • How does it feel to be interacting with people outside of WoW?

  • wait, this isn't part of the expansion? i thought this was part of the new auction system for Outlands...

  • There's only one relatively small place, in the lee of Mt. Erebus, that's not covered in thick pack ice. The rest of it is. Certainly sorry.

  • I didn't know we got expansions on life...hmm makes you think huh?
