Dreams from My Father (Original)

Hey guys, this was a song I made for a project I had in my AP Lang/Comp class; its based on Barack Obama's autobiography Dreams from My Father, which discusses his struggles with race and inheritance. This is the first song I've composed myself, so feel free to offer suggestions on how I can improve :)

I used my intro section as a generalization of the problems of racism in general; I aimed to create a feeling of sadness, although I deviated from this idea a bit near the end of the section for transition purposes.
The next portion is focused on Obama's childhood, in which he was relatively sheltered from the racial divide between blacks and whites; thus, I used a calmer and more light-hearted mood for this section.
The brief transition afterwards, which I used to convey emotions of sadness and fear, marks the point in which Obama was first introduced to racism, a life-changing moment that had a great impact on his life.
Finally, the repetition of the chorus signifies Obamas triumph over the hardships of racism. The ending section after it represents his feelings of peace and content after having completed his emotional journey.

hey nice job well hen i improv i like to stat out slow then add some octaves to the root chords i have in my peices, and break down my chourds roll them to somtimre I hit one note slowly and do the others very fast in a chord of mines. but i have only been play9ing for about 6 months with a piano teacher but anout a year on my own so im not the best haha.
