When I turn these plugins on(any of them) I get the worst high pitched scream from my speakers. I'm running my guitar through an amp and then straight into the line in on the front of my PC. Do you have any idea how to fix this

@Lydomina You should be running through an amp into the line in. It will do an amp over amp kinda thing. The best thing is to try plugging in directly to the line in and what happens. Best solution is to use a sound card/break out box with an instrument input and feed that to the plugings.

@mriesenb I'm not sure I understand your comment, but I have tried directly connecting the guitar to the line in on my PC. I've also tried plugging the guitar into an amp, and then plugging the amp into the line in on the PC. Both of these methods still came out with some nasty screeching as soon as I activate the VST plugins.

It might be noteworthy to say that I'm monitoring the track I'm recording on, not just recording and then playing it back later.

@Lydomina Every plug needs a cam sim as well. So if you for instance use Meathead you will ned to have Meathead loaed and after that a cab sim like Voxengo Boogex for instance. But it does sound like your line in is amplifying the signal as well. So then you can indeed get a high pitch sound. To successfully use VST plugs I would advise to buy a decent USB, PCI or FireWire audio interface.

Respond to this video...  Could be with a break out box, or with different types of cables. They typically have an instrument in, which makes sure there does not get extra amplifation applied. I assume you now use the input of an

Respond to this video...  on-board sound card? Also, before you plug in. Turn down the input and output in the plugin and the slowly raise the levels. To give you an idea, I use the Saffire LE by Focusrite, which is a firewire interface, but there are decent USB interfaces around. Only the latency will be longer (latency is the time that passes between hitting the string and hearing it in the plugin)

i cant get any sounds only the test signal?

I figured out that I had "Stereo Mix" turned on. So when I would monitor in Ableton, my PC was basically monitoring the program on top of that causing the screeching.

Now If I could just fix the latency and maybe find a way to make the guitar play through both speakers. I have the ASIO4ALL driver, but anything below a 400+ buffer rate starts to crackle :P.
