There is a Bob Martin, recording for Lally from December 1930, but this side was recorded a while before that on April 5th.
According to the British Dance Band book, by Brian Rust, Bob played guitar and violin at this period, and other instruments later on, but not including trumpet... so it is a mystery.

@muscleco Just found this Lally side. My grandfather played with the Blue Lyres at the Dorchester, but I don't know when. He might be on this unissued side as well. I just don't know how to find out. He was a trumpeter name of Martin. If you have any ideas how to start a trace to find that sort of info, please let me know.

These early Lally Rhythm Maniacs have fantastic sound up until late 1930 i think when that so irritating decca muffle was decided on,astonishingly,as being what the paying public wanted!!All those Roy Foxes and early Hyltons too that sound tinny.Parlophone was the best i think, then columbia.
A great side. Shame Decca sound was not on a par with most of the smaller labels even. Not sure if I ever met Alastair, at those old record fairs perhaps, although his name is very familiar to all British 78 collectors.

@muscleco Alasdair was a very good friend of mine, he was so kind and down to earth, and would always share his collection with anyone. Sadly he passed away two years ago, but I still have a lot of his material. Us collectors just have to keep going in this sorry world of 2010!
