    The scientist who discovered it was a German, so it's actually pronounced "Vittig"

  • Thanks - that makes sense. I was actually taught undergraduate organic chemistry by a German prof with a strong accent and he must have pronounced it like that. But over the years by talking with my fellow Canadians in grad school I must have adopted the "W" pronunciation.

  • I dont see any problems with the way you pronouce it. But if i want to split hairs, i would saw the t-sound is pronouced to softly.

    But who cares.
