Parents need to start early. Our children need to know that the prequels are only to be experiened after the traditional ceremony of an Original Trilogy marathon. Otherwise they'll be surfing around on the internet one day and stumble across one of those prequel movies. And if they don't have anyone to put what they've seen into context, those images will be imprinted in their young minds, and they'll go around thinking that what they saw in those movies was normal and healthy.

Ah, I remember the day our son came to us and said he liked Jar Jar. That was the day of the sit down.

Well, it doesn't maintain chronological order if you throw 3 in after 5. Also, Episode 1 isn't engaging without a knowledge of the prequels.

Why? There's more than one way to "Star Wars".

I'm with Odpaypella on this. For somebody totally new to the movies, the IV-V / I-II-III / VI order makes sense for a variety of reasons. There are disadvantages to both a release-order viewing and episode-order viewing. For more details, search on-line for the excellent "Machete Order" Star Wars article by Rod Hilton, who suggests you can even drop Episode I from the order and not lose any of the story.

I'm going watch them with my kids in this order: 1, 2, 4, 5, 3, and 6. That way it's in chronological order but the big spoiler is preserved.

I much prefer the 4 5 1 2 3 6 method. It preserves that Anakin was Luke's father with the 4 51 2 3 6 while having the fall act as a flashback and cap off the series with the redemption instead of the fall. It also creates a twist on the Leia-Luke reveal by making it more shocking than just "Oh yeah, you have a sister. It's Leia. Bye."

Plus with the 4-6 1-3 + Clone Wars method ends on such a dark note. Oh yeah, that person dies, the galaxy crumbles into darkness, the character you love is evil.
