My overview of this year's Wii DDR:
(2012 edit: This was clearly the first Wii effort to actually strive for arcade parity as much of this game KOs and some licenses ended up on DDRX2 AC. It also removed hands from the primary gameplay and the charts were done primarily by the arcade team unlike HP2.)
Some MAJOR core changes made to the game, MUCH for the better and a few for the worse.
Timing windows are back to the standard home version width. HP2 made the Perfect window wider to accommodate hand markers, but without them there was probably no need to keep them that way anymore. If you can AAA on SN2/DDRX/HP1, this should feel virtually identical.
Balance Board timing windows are naturally wider than standard, and Hyper Move Mode is standard width.
All arcade DDRX speed modifiers are available including HP2's ?x.
You can now mark your favorite tracks on the songwheel and put them in a specific "Favorites" folder.
Tournament mode is your new Groove Circuit mode. Works about the same as the last two, except when you come across the mission that unlocks Gimmicks, you're FORCED to play with them. However, no other mission in the game is like that. *hint* Play 1x on Shine. It'll make it much easier to keep up with. Songs can also be unlocked through standard play in Free Play mode. If you win against a computer on a boss song, it is actually unlocked for Free Play, no strings attached.
ALL OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE ON THE SONGWHEEL! YESSS!!! You no longer have to go back to the title screen for options like global timing and Marvelous judgment.
Some real shockers in the license list in terms of "HOW THE HELL DID THEY MAKE IT AND STILL GET E-10 ON THIS!" Personally, I have no problem with it, it's about time the songs got a little bit more spine! Overall, I love the list. Some really good stuff got in there this time, and it's all masters too. On the flip-side, since they're masters the timing on a few of the songs is a little suspect but it's nothing too serious.
Reverse is FINALLY in the HP series. So is Note, Flat, and Rainbow! Aside from doubles, challenge difficulty, and edit mode, everything else is here now. Oh, one thing I should mention is that freeze arrows with the Reverse mod are actually FIXED on this game, can you believe it? OMG I can read it without going nuts!!! (THEY HAVE YET TO FIX THIS ON THE AC RELEASES)
Combo counter works like DDRX now with one enhancement. It changes color according to whether you're getting all marvelous/perfect/or got a great. Goes white if you miss. Unlike X/X2 the counter STAYS white if you miss. (the arcade games STILL don't do this) The combo animations quit playing too. We have our own full combo splash at the end of a song now too. Goes gold if you PFC (regardless of whether you drop a freeze or not as that won't break a combo unlike the AC releases), and green if it's just an FC with a great or so.
There are NO 99% AAAs in this game. It's either all Perfects/Marvelous or AA like it was in Max/Max2/Extreme AC. Max score is once again based on the difficulty of the song, though the max point values are different than that of HP1/DDRDG. Some songs requires gimmicks to AAA.
As stated before, unlocks can now be obtained in Free Play mode when you've accumulated a certain amount of dance points. You accumulate them by playing songs. The better you do the more points you'll get toward unlocks. When everything is unlocked it'll say "Complete".
Free Play mode is the main mode of the game. The charts on a whole are MUCH better than HP2 when played foot only so those of you who turned off hand markers will LOVE this game as they're completely removed from this mode. Hands are not completely gone out of the game, but they're now in TWO separate modes of their own with their OWN charts. Gimmicks even have to be unlocked now! This works to the benefit of many songs in that for the most part there's no question as to what they were intending for you to do on a chart. There's also no more wondering (with the exception of some of the revivals) whether hands make any sense out of the charts or not. Only bad thing about the charts is that most of the licenses are snoozers. This is one change from HP1 and 2 that I DO NOT LIKE. Those two games had much more variance in difficulty in their charts, and it's a shame to see them go backward here. On the other hand, the charts that are good, are REALLY good! Also, unlike DDRX2CS, HP3 grabbed the higher end of the license difficulty range with Detroit Rock City and The Space Dance.
Continued in part 2.
Another note, the KOs that did not make it to X2 PS2 or X2 AC are the HP 1-2 Power Mixes, "Be With You (Still Miss You)", "PARADISE", and "Now's The Time". Maybe those stuff were ment to be Wii exclusives.

@AgentPofNewVestroia Be With You I could understand, but the other two would've been fine, especially with a new challenge chart or something.

if you have DDR 2010 will these song transfer over to it?

@023338 No. Not one DDR home game has ever had a song transfer option. Makes me wish they did have a disc swap option sometimes but to Konami that would be extra work.

this is the shittiest version of ddr i've ever seen

@globaltrance86 No sir, the mix that would qualify for that is DDR 2010 and even then they've done much worse.
