It would appear she made the beating story up. The police were called (by Browne) when Darryl attempted to take things that did not belong to her at the time do their break-up. Police don't falsify reports if they're smart. Also, Darryl denied the rumour.

Finally, two words: Bonnie Raitt. She would have nothing to do with anyone who abused a woman. She's remained a loyal friend to Jackson Browne for decades.
