Johannesburg is the largest economic metropolis in Africa. Downtown Johannesburg, however, is one of the world's most violent places. Most offi ce buildings have been vacated or squatted and are occupied by various groups of illegal Africans from neighbouring countries. Thousands of fortune seekers are trying to build a new life in this anarchist urban jungle. Meanwhile, the city is preparing for the World Cup soccer 2010, an important opportunity for Johannesburg to present itself to the world. The city centre needs to be cleaned up, and everything is being done to make sure that this major event will run smoothly. But will it succeed? And what will be the consequences for the thousands of immigrants in the city center? Rob Schröder visited Johannesburg repeatedly since January 2008 to document the changes. Is it possible to control this city of hope and fear, and to transform its center into a safe and acceptable place to live? And how does anyone survive in Johannesburg at all?

unfortunately from what i've read, the ANC south africa is very oppressive to the whites. blacks have made it very unliveable with threats of violence and racial targeting of whites.

Those searches seemed to be totally without cause and very obstrusive. Pretty disturbing to see from an American point of view. I noticed there was an Asian lady too. I know there are some Asians in SA but don't know much about why they are there are what they do. Did they grow up there, come for business, etc?

really good film, i walk in joburg all the time i can tel you straight that your more likley to be mugged in london , exept the media does not report what really happens, last night there were at least 2 murdersin london but you wont see it on the news, i wonder why!!! south africa and the africans are awsome , i love jo burg

Go to any black neighborhood in America to see how black people run things. They run everything into the ground.

As a whole, they have no unity. They will sell each other out for a box of cracker jacks. Just look at how many of the strongest black men and women were sold to white people for slavery. This has gone on in Africa since THE BEGINNING OF TIME, whites are just the most recent customers.
