St. Louis Anonymous - August 1, 2009

Fun protest, with a special visit from the Nashanons of "baloney sandwich" fame, as well as a native son currently living in NC (where the local org is: CLOSED).

We did not know ahead of time, but the Org was holding a memorial service the day of our protest. A Scientologist came over and asked us to leave.

Following that, a complaint was made which resulted in 5 police showing up, including a supervisor, although we were not violating any rules by our protest.

While the police initially wanted us to leave altogether, we were eventually permitted to protest a block down the street. Following that, things went pretty smoothly, with dancing and caek, and several flyers handed out. The rain started a little later, but we successfully employed umbrella- and tree-tech. Sorry to those who have gotten used to the drama of the last few raids - aside from the cops at the beginning, this one went over fairly smoothly.

The police said we had a right to stay where we were. But if we did, they would watch us the whole time, and make arrests for any violation - pretty much a hint for us not to stay there. They actually wanted us to leave altogether, so moving was a reasonable compromise.

We did raise the issue of them possibly holding "funerals" each time we show up. The police said that if this became a trend, they would take that into account.

Well they did have some sort of event. More people than usual, and all dressed up, so there probably was a service, and I'm sure they could have spun it against us if we'd stayed across from the org.

I still don't get why 5 cops showed up to respond to a simple complaint.

i still would have been in favor of moving down a block even if only one cop had showed up to ask, tho -- or one scientologist. grieving is hard, and just because your head's full of cultic nonsense it doesn't get easier. =/
