At 2.20 you can still count the quarter note and the comping guy is perfectly in the right jazzblues chordchanges.Exactly after 12 bars they are on top of beat one of the first measure.
At 2:20 they're arriving at a rythmically intricate brake leaving the listener wondering, who's now giving the groove and who is soloing resulting in an out of synch-situation. But somehow they managed to get back into groove again. Thats the difference if you change responsibilities in giving the beat.

Immer wenn ich solche Leute höre, habe ich nach einigen Minuten den Wunsch, daß sie "Apache" von den Shadows oder meinetwegen auch "Mendocino" spielen.
Oder irgendwas - nur nicht noch einmal zehn Minuten lang dieses Genudel.
