If those who watch this, and haven't seen much of ms Loudon , combine it with a look at the 1977 Tony's performance of "Annie" - where she's doing "Easy street" with Rooster and Lily, the 1986 Tonys former winners medley (where Dorothy also does "Easy street") and of course the 1979 Tony awards "50 per cent" - you'll see a performer who let's the singing, acting and choreography get run through the caracter instead of the performer - that's acting, if anything. Thanks, once again!

The magic, I think, lies in the fact that she makes averything seem totally improvised, totally invented in that very second - it doesn't feel rehersed or predecided in any way. You have no idea were she's taking you, always in the verge, al the time she keeps you on the toes (when she starts adressing "mister producer"s in the audience, or Steve himself).

Dorothy Loudon was also fabulous in Allan Sherman's musical, "The Fig Leaves Are Falling", in which she sang a knockout through-the-roof song called "All My Laughter"
and another very sad and poignant song called "Did I Ever Really Live?" which may have described Allan Sherman's too-short life.

@actuallyperhaps The best Tony show of all time. That was a great moment, as was Julie Andrews singing Send in the Clowns and Chita Rivera and Gwen Verdon doing Nowadays.

I was fortunate to see Dorothy Loudon in "Noises Off" at the Martin Beck Theater in 1984 when I lived in NY. It wasn't a singing role but she had everyone on the floor of the theater! She was incredible. Thanks for posting!

PLEASE does anyone have the Mame referred to below. What an original glittering star she was. I saw her in Jerrys Girls - what a privilege to remember her!

This was the same Tony Awards where she was standing on a car while a circle of men sang Mame...you hear her just before you see her "don't look at your programs...it's me..." "jerry's thinking of me for the sequal...." haha

In celebration of the Tony Awards, THIS is the definition of what used to be called pizzazz.
Thank YOU for the great comments! I really didn't know a lot about Ms. Loudon until a few years ago - but I am continually knocked out by the vibrancy of her performances... so much polish and being safe in performing now - she was truly alive.
