http://www.microchipcatflaps.co.uk/ shows how this customers cat got in but was nearly followed in by a neighbours cat who would normally intimidate their cat and steal their cats food. Now with the Pet Porte microchip cat flap their cat is safe and can defend its home once again.

  • Anyway, a good product for those whose catflap generates moderate traffic, but also works for heavy head-bashing (but expect to gain use of your warranty). At least the neighbour cats can't get in about 4 out of 5 times (I've set it to close 1 sec (minimum setting) after our cats have entered, but the neighbour cats are very determined..).

  • @stossan It takes any amount of bashing as I've demonstrated in other videos on YouTube. Very few customers claim on the warranty. I've had mine for over four years with no problems. Other cats can only get in if they follow your cat immediately through which is usually rare. If even the Pet Porte Smart Flap doesn't work maybe you could consider introducing a dog to your home? :-)

  • Sorry for triple post... I own one of these flaps and they really do work, a year on and it hasn't broken due to 'cheap plastic parts', mentioned in a comment below. We had a problem with an uncastrated male coming into the house (by force) and attacking our cats (and furniture). Since installing this we have had no problems.

  • @BigBadCrazyDave That's right it is built to the highest standards and is easily the best cat flap on the market. Beware of "Me-Too" copycat products that will not last as long or be as effective as the original Pet Porte microchip cat flap.

  • @winsoar The lock is fixable though, I just need to get a screwdriver everytime it happens.

  • @winsoar Perhaps :) We actually bought a new (the third one) Smart Flap since the old one was broke beyond recognition, it only took two weeks until the neighbour cat had broken it again. With great speed and force he manages to actually break the mechanism and pass through, but he only is successful once every tenth time, since it requires a great amount of force and speed... Or he'll gain access by using his blazing speed to follow my cats inside even though I've set it for only 1 sec :/

  • I fitted one for a friend who has two girl cats. He was woken up by a loud racket last night and thought he had left the pet porte unplugged. They were both sat watching a huge tomcat trying to break in. It was most confused and there was a horrible stink outside were it had sprayed. This is the new style pet porte and we didn't fit the battery so they can be easily locked outside. My friend has asked me to fit another one to create an 'airlock' from the garden.

  • @waimanlam I am from Australia but bought this product a month ago and my cat Smithy has no problem using it at all (but he is a very SMART cat..hehe). The only criticism is that the front porch/scanner is a bit too big and it would be nice if it is a big smaller.

  • I bought this a month and with the help of my partner we got this installed. It works like a charm and my cat Smithy has no problem using this (but he is a very SMART cat - hehe). The only complication is we have a fly wire metal door in front of the wooden door so we have to cut a hole in the metal door and put a frame around the hole to make it look nice. We had to do some measurements to make sure the porch of Pet Porte will not bang into the wired door when we open either door. 4/5 stars.

  • I'm considering buying this cat flap for when my double glazing gets installed soon. Anglian Windows, a reputable firm, will install the flap so I won't be able to return after 30 day trial if I'm unhappy with it. My main concern comes after some customer reviews I read on Amazon, apparently if the flap is hit with enough force (evidently more than this neighbour cat uses!) then the green lock flips down into the open position until the chipped cat resets it thus allowing other cats entry..... ?

  • @winsoar A different kind of bashing, that is. I mean running as fast as you (a cat) can and run right into it. Every day our cats get chased to the PetPorte, and I mean several times a day. They lurk until they see one of our two cats and then chase her inside in hope that they'll be quick enough to get right in after. A dog wouldn't work, my sister has one of those pugs, the cats are terrified of him. :)
